Gestational Diabetes
THRIVE

GDM (Gestational Diabetes Mellitus) is the fastest growing type of diabetes, with rates doubling in the past decade.

Welcome to PharmOnline's GD Thrive program.

GD Thrive is part of PharmOnline Conception to Kindy Clinics - What are they?

With our confidential, encrypted video teleconference service, we have been assisting individuals Australia wide with their individual health concerns, including those who are pregnant or dealing with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), and want to visit their in-person provider.

Joining a C2K Clinic means you will be able to speak with Medical Experts using methods that will offer reassurance, comfort, and answers you need about GDM without having to leave your home.  Answers can be found to questions such as:

‘What medication should I take, and how often should I take it’;

‘What lifestyle changes will help me combat GDM?’; and

‘Are there other people who are living through this, or am I the only one?’.

What is Gestational Diabetes (GDM)?

The statistics indicate that 1 in 7 pregnancies are affected, meaning there are more than 41,000 families who need support. Up to 40% of these families will require medication.

GDM increases the risk of a big (macrosomic) baby, stuck shoulder (dystocia) during birth, nerve palsy, hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose) and breathing difficulties. It increases your chances of developing pre-eclampsia, high blood pressure, early delivery, induction, fetal death and caesarean section delivery.

Additionally, GDM increases the risk of both you and your baby developing type 2 diabetes later in life. Treating these conditions can help reduce your risk of developing such issues.

    Who is involved in the clinics and how will I benefit from participating?

    Most likely, if you were diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes after an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) at around 24 weeks, you had a quick consultation with your obstetrician and midwife.

    As we work with mums-to-be, we often find that they are told they need to start on insulin and to change their diet in order to reduce their chances of developing type 2 diabetes in their future and that of their baby.

    Many future mothers, however, worry that they do not know anyone else with GDM. They also worry that they do not have anyone to turn to when they have further questions about how to reduce harm.
